Author and tester

Hi, I'm Martin. Through my experience of living in the wilderness and doing nature crafts, I know how important the right equipment is. I want to help you to be well equipped for your adventures. More about me on my "About me" page.

Today, let's take a closer look at the product "Gerber Survival Knife LMF II Infantry".

My evaluation and experience

At times, I often had the Gerber LMF II Infantry with me on my tours. And what can I say: It is a robust survival knife in full tang style with a drop point blade and partially serrated edge, which always provided faithful service.

The blade made of 420HC steel (12.3 cm) remains super sharp and is excellent for cutting and carving. The non-slip handle ensures that the knife always stays securely in hand. Even in the rain or when my hands are sweaty, I have a firm grip.

Another plus is the end of the handle, which can be used as a hammerhead. With that, I have driven many a peg into the hard forest floor.

The included leg holster made of fire-resistant nylon is not only practical, but also compatible with the MOLLE system. It can be flexibly attached, and the integrated sharpening stone ensures that the blade stays sharp.

The total length of just under 27 cm and the weight of 670 g with holster (331 g for the knife only) make the knife compact and yet robust.

For survival experts, bushcrafters, and survivalists, the Gerber LMF II is a valuable companion. It is versatile and extremely durable.

However, if you are looking for a lightweight and compact knife for everyday use, you may want to look for a different model.

I like that

I do not like

  • May not be worn in public in Germany (blade longer than 12 cm)

What other buyers say about the product

The majority of customers report enthusiastically about the Gerber LMF II Infantry Knife.

Many appreciate the sharp drop-point blade, the non-slip grip, and the versatile field of application.

Customers say:

  • “Absolute top piece”
  • “Quality item, made in North America!”
  • “This Gerber knife is very well made, as befits a survival knife.”

The leg holster with integrated sharpening stone is also considered very practical.

However, some criticize the construction. The rubber handle peels off for some and the knife sits too tightly in the sheath from time to time.

One customer complained: “The steel is not edge-retaining and the construction is also not good”.

Fortunately, I cannot confirm that so far. On the contrary.

My rating and conclusion

As an outdoor expert, I know that the Gerber LMF II Infantry is a powerful tool for rough environments.

I particularly like the non-slip grip that provides a secure hold even in stressful situations.

The integrated knife sharpener in the leg holster and the MOLLE compatibility make it a multifunctional companion. Made in the USA and originally designed for the military, this knife is robust and versatile.

If you are looking for a reliable survival knife that won't let you down, the LMF II might be just right for you.
