Hi, I'm Martin. Through my experience of living in the wilderness and doing nature crafts, I know how important the right equipment is. I want to help you to be well equipped for your adventures. More about me on my "About me" page.

Today, let's take a closer look at the product "Goal Zero lantern 600 lumens".

My evaluation and experience

The Goal Zero Lantern has saved me many an evening outdoors. With its 600 lumens and its 360° illumination, it effortlessly brightens every corner of our camp when I am out in the woods with my children.

Thanks to the sturdy stainless-steel handle, the lamp can be easily hung up. Alternatively, the wide baseplate ensures a secure stand if you prefer to place it.

The Lighthouse 600 also allows you to dim the brightness if needed. By dimming down, you can extend the battery life to an impressive 320 hours, making the lamp even more versatile.

If 360-degree lighting is not necessary, one side of the Lighthouse 600 can be turned off. This saves energy and allows for more directed illumination. The rotary knob on the top controls whether one or both LEDs are active - for maximum flexibility.

Lighting modes and duration:

  • Half dimmed: 320 hrs.
  • Half bright: 5 hrs.
  • Both sides dimmed: 180 hrs.
  • Both sides bright: 2.5 hrs.

At a weight of 498 grams, it is not light, but with a height of approximately 13 cm, it is compact enough for a backpack. The robust plastic construction ensures it can withstand even the wildest adventures.

What impresses me the most is the ability to charge my phone and other small USB devices via the integrated USB port. This is a real lifesaver when you forget to pack your power bank.

The durable lithium battery (Built-in 5200 mAh Li-Ion battery (18.7 Wh)) and the option to charge the lamp via a USB charging cable (Charging time: approx. 6 hours via USB or solar panel) and a hand crank make it particularly versatile.

With just one minute of cranking on the integrated hand crank, you generate enough energy to power the lantern for a full 10 minutes in dimmed mode - perfect for short uses or emergencies when no other charging options are available.

It is perfect for bushcrafters, campers, and wilderness educators. Even during a power outage at home, as recently happened, it reliably illuminated us.

However, you should not buy the lantern if you are looking for an integrated solar module. While it can be charged with an external solar panel, it does not come with its own solar panel.

So, if you are looking for a reliable light source that is not only bright but also practical, then the Goal Zero Lantern is a good choice for you. Even though it is not the cheapest lantern on the market, it has convinced me and many of my students.

I like that

I do not like

  • Relatively expensive
  • Somewhat short USB cable
  • No built-in solar cell
  • Not waterproof

What other buyers say about the product

I have looked at many reviews (over 1000 on Amazon) and users often mention that the Goal Zero lantern shines brightly, is versatile, and has a long-lasting battery.

Customers write:

  • "This lamp can be dimmed from nice to very bright and that for several days!"
  • "Everything about the lantern feels valuable, it is mega bright, the light is very pleasant as it is not so blue or white, but rather yellowish."
  • "Really a great lamp, often envied for it. Incredibly bright and great light color."

The option to charge small electrical devices via the USB port is consistently positively reviewed.

"Reading song lyrics by the campfire works great because it doesn't blind the audience (light can only be turned on in one direction: genius!)"

Other buyers also criticize the short charging cable, the lack of a built-in solar cell, and the price.

  • "Excellent product: small but effective (very bright), handy, suitable for various situations. With one big drawback: the price!"
  • "However, not a cheap purchase but still worth buying."

Overall, the lamp is highly appreciated in the community and considered a valuable investment.

My rating and conclusion

I can highly recommend the Goal Zero lantern to you. The well-thought-out features and the coordinated technology make this lantern almost a little cult.

With its 600 lumens, it brings even the darkest night to light. I especially like how versatile it is - you can charge it via USB or crank, which makes it ideal for emergencies. Since the crank is available, I am much more relaxed about my power capacity.

The durable lithium battery lasts for several days, and the dimmable brightness makes it perfect for various situations. The community appreciates it for its robustness and the ability to charge small devices.

One of the few downsides is the firmly integrated, short USB cable, but overall, the Goal Zero lantern is worth every cent.
