Author and tester

Hi, I'm Martin. Through my experience of living in the wilderness and doing nature crafts, I know how important the right equipment is. I want to help you to be well equipped for your adventures. More about me on my "About me" page.

Today, let's take a closer look at the product "Victorinox Classic SD pocket knife".

My evaluation and experience

My Victorinox Classic SD has been hanging on my keychain for four years. It is always there. Whether it's a children's group in the forest or a seminar in the city.

Today morning I quickly cut a thread from the jacket. Yesterday I removed a splinter with the tweezers. From a child in the wilderness course.

What always amazes me: How small it is and how much it can do.

The small blade is enough for an apple or a string. The scissors cut more precisely than you think. With the screwdriver, I recently tightened the loose screw on the binoculars. In the forest, without extra tools.

The knife is with 58 mm length hardly bigger than a key. It weighs only 21 grams. You don't notice it in your pocket.

It is not intended for the great wilderness. It doesn't replace a real bushcraft knife. The blade is too small and not lockable.

But for nature educators, mushroom pickers, and forest guides, it is perfect. You always have a small tool with you. For small emergencies with children in the forest. Or when you need to cut something spontaneously.

I recommend it to everyone who is often on the go and wants to carry little. City people just as much as nature guides. To all who are looking for a reliable mini-tool.

But if you want to do serious carving or bushcraft, you need a larger knife. The Classic SD is not made for that.

I like that

I do not like

  • The blade is not lockable
  • Not suitable for heavy tasks
  • Price can be perceived as high for the size
  • Smaller tools than with larger Swiss knives

What other buyers say about the product

I have looked at many reviews for the Victorinox Classic SD. Customers love how little space it takes.

The combination of tiny size and usefulness convinces. Seven tools weighing only 21 grams – that makes an impression.

Especially the sharpness of the small blade and the surprisingly good scissors are praised. "Perfect for the urban jungle" someone writes aptly.

The quality of workmanship is consistently a plus point.

There is criticism regarding the price. Some find it too high for the size. Others see the value in its durability.

Also clearly: It is not a tool for heavy-duty work – the lack of a locking mechanism for the blade limits its use.

My rating and conclusion

I wear the Victorinox Classic SD almost daily with me for two years. It only weighs 21 grams and disappears on the keychain. I almost forget that it’s there.

The small blade easily opens packages. The scissors cut more precisely than one might think. I regularly use the tweezers and toothpick.

It is not an outdoor tool for the forest. It is the urban problem solver.

Other users appreciate, like me, the quality of workmanship and the well-thought-out compactness. For some, the price seems high, but the durability makes up for it.

Based on my tests and usage, I rate the product "Victorinox Classic SD pocket knife" with the following score:
